Two long-term rivals and team-mates will contest the Buderim Snooker Club’s A-grade final in what is sure to be an action-packed night on May 22.
David Armstrong will aim to lift the prestigious Chadwick Shield for the seventh time while Graham Baker hopes to take the title for the fourth occasion in the past five years.
Armstrong won his place in the decider with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Bribie Island’s Peter Warwick in the I Spy Pies semi-finals last Thursday (May 8) in front of a strong crowd of about 20 spectators.
Baker, who lost last year’s final to Warwick, had to work hard for his 3-2 result over Caloundra’s John Wells. Needing to win the final frame, Baker started with an excellent break of 31 only for Wells to fight back, but Baker recovered to seal the victory by sinking the pink in a tense conclusion to an even game.
Both Armstrong and Baker have represented Buderim together in teams in the Brisbane and District Pennant competitions and know each other’s game well, adding to the intrigue over the exciting match up.
The final, which will be played over the best of five frames, begins at 7.30pm on May 22 and members and visitors are welcome to watch the game and enjoy a free supper provided by I Spy Pies.
